Homeowner Planning Guide

What Happens to Branches and Logs After Tree Work?

Debris handling should be defined before work begins. Branches, logs, stump grindings, hauling, and lawn restoration are different parts of a tree-service project.

Agree on Which Material Is Included

Confirm whether branches and logs will be removed, retained, or placed in an agreed location. Identify any existing debris separately. Do not interpret a general cleanup statement as permission to include unrelated material.

Stumps and Grindings Are Separate Decisions

A tree removal may leave a stump. Grinding creates wood material and does not necessarily include haul-away or backfill. Explain what you plan to do with the area afterward.

Private Pickup and Public Collection Are Different

After storms, local collection rules may change. Check current official guidance for your jurisdiction rather than assuming a contractor’s pile will qualify for public pickup. Confirm private hauling, permitted pile locations, and accepted materials separately.

Prepare for the Finished Result

Review the work area and agreed cleanup together when possible. Clarify retained wood, remaining roots, and any restoration that requires another service.
